That depends on how much cash you've got M8...

The x2's go for between 7 & 10k each.
The normal 4870's go for between 3.2 & 5.2k

Also remember you'll need a stronger power supply to run the x2 or 2x cards...

Here's the real kicker though:
You can get the 9800gt card for 2.2k...

That's why I went for 2x 9800's.

9800GT

While the card is capable of gaming at 1920 x 1200, we would probably reserve the card for 22″ monitor users and other gamers who run at around that 1600 / 1680 resolution. If you want to game higher than that with some decent detail, we would probably recommend that you save your dollars for another few weeks and upgrade to something like the 9800 GTX or the HD 4870.

The only gripe we have with the card is that it’s going to confuse some people. If you’re a user of an 8800 GT and you think the 9800 GT might be a bit of an upgrade, you will be severely disappointed. The card is probably best reserved for upgraders who have an 8600 GTS or below.

What resolution do you usually play at?
Can you honestly tell me it's necessary to game in full HD?
It would be nice, but definitely not a necessity...

Make no mistake, if I had 21k laying around that I had no other use for I'd buy 2 4870x2's... just can't justify it though

I play at 1680x1050.

I think what I should do is get one 4870 single, and then wait for Nehalem to launch in SA properly, then get a board with its chipset (and the processor of course) and then another 4870....

Does that sound viable??
