[FAQ] Java Game compatibility / screen size issues

I don't know if this will work or not, but I've come up with a way to find out the res sizes of the games using the method below.

Best used by somebody who has a USB cable (so downloading games is free) and a large screen (because games can only be scaled up). Tester will need a Nokia.

1. Open the .jar file using WinRAR
2. Open the META-INF folder and drag the MANIFEST.MF file to your desktop.
3. Open MANIFEST.MF in Notepad and type at the end:

Nokia-MIDlet-Original-Display-Size: 176 ,208
Nokia-MIDlet-Target-Display-Size: 352 ,416

4. Save the MANIFEST.MF file and drag the file back into WinRAR and press OK.
5. Close WinRAR and you should have now successfully changed the resolution of the desired game.

Please Note:

* The Original Display Size is the actual resolution of the game.
* The Target Display Size is the resolution you want the game to be displayed at on your phone, for example 352 ,416 is the resolution of the Nokia N80. Please be aware that the resolution of a game can be resized larger but not smaller.

OK, so the tester simply has to put their phone's res under target display size, then it's simply a matter of trial and error in entering the original game size. When the game displays correctly, you'll know you've found the original size.

Of course, I haven't actually tried any of this yet, its purely theoretical... I'm getting a Nokia 5300 for Christmas, I would've tried it otherwise, but it'd be kinda impossible on a Nokia 3315.

I have a Nokia N73, but when I play PES 2008 (7) It only takes the upper left quarter of my screen..How can I fix this?

i have a moto v3..i cant download those games which had a 176x220 screen..my phone has 176x220 screen but that games doesn't work for my phone..which one will work 176x220 or 176x208? plz..

Hi! I installed Nigthmare before Christmas, it didn´t work at all, also, the Ahorcado game and I got an error application during installation. Also, The Simpsons, Happy Tree Friends (both), Land Of The Dead, Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix, Dino Crisis and The Witcher, and all of them were stucked on loading the game. My cell is a KRZR K1 I don´t think it was caused by resollution issues, I downloaded the 176x220 and 176x208. I hope this is usefull for somebody. Also installed Hard Rock Casino, Uno challenge, Chuzzle and Ultimate Trivia and they work very well.

In my LG Cosmo (ME 550) worked:

-Benjy The Dog
-Inchville
-Virtual Rabbit
-Weapon Master
-Finding Nemo
-Sim Fishing
-Van Helsing

(all games 176 x 220)

But all the games I REALLY wanted didn't work! That includes all the "SIMS" ones, the "Harry Potter" ones, "Garfield's Day Out", and "The Nightmare Before Christmas"...

Anyone knows if those games with other sizes works on your LGs?
What other games can work in LG ones?

But there's an OBS there: all games (including the ones from the post above), after a lil time, stuck in a totally blank image. You have to turn off/on you cel .

Hi! i'm having problem with mg java games. Currently i'm using a n95 and n6300. and i installed the game towerbloxx and citybloxx. when i played it in my n95, the speed is rather slow and choppy, but when i used my n6300, its all ok. does in have compatibily issues for n series phones? thanks!
