What's wrong with a Prescott?

It is just a matter of opinion.
Prescott cores are excessively power hungry as well as being hot-runners.
60-65°C while idling??? (2.8/3.0/3.2 GHz on PPGA478 and PLGA775 confirmed) , no thanks.
Intel hit the roof with their Netburst technology introducing the Prescott core.
But that is OK , they abandoned Netburst eventually and released their "Core" CPU's - now , these processors I do like.
Just to point out one fact - Intel CPU's are the ONLY ones I ever wanna have in any of my PC's (past and current opinion!).
As such I don't want to make Intel bad , they just went off tracks with the Prescott's - especially the first ones for PPGA478.
Edit:
taikucingg - try Log in to see links to check Your components temperatures , voltages and fan speeds.
HWMonitor seems to be quite accurate.
It will also estimate a laptops battery charge/health.
With Log in to see links You can identify Your PC's CPU.

anybody knows what's wrong with it,and how can i fix it!
sometimes i turn on the pc,and this screen appears and i wait for about 10 secounds and nothing else is shown,so i push the reset button and pc restarts(sometimes i should do it several times )
then that the screen appears again, but it starts to show, cpu, ram, master and slave devices(HDD,Optical Drivers)
and the computers boots properly!
what happens when that screen appears and nothing else happens, how can i fix it?
Image0149.jpg
and also todays i was playing a game,i mean all components became hotter
(i just checked the cpu,it's temp was 62c and fan speed 4080rpm)
and then i restarted the pc, it has happened again, but this difference that i pushed the reset button over 10 times, then it booted properly!
does it have any effect on my booting problem?(i mean when pc becomes hot)Last edited by nojoum; 05-09-2011 at 01:16 PM.

Your MBO's BIOS seems to freeze during boot/start up.
Do You have the latest OFFICIAL BIOS version for Your MBO?
Also , if You made some custom tweaks within the MBO's BIOS options You might be experiencing instability issues.
For example: setting too low memory latencies/timings can cause system freezing
You can use Log in to see links to identify: Your CPU , Your MBO's (mainboard) brand/model/chipset/bios version , Your RAM's brand/type/supported AND set timings and frequencies
A hot CPU should not affect a PC to boot up properly , unless the PC previously shut down on itself or froze up due to overheating issues.
That looks like a MBO issue.
62°C for a Prescott is not to be considered a critical temperature.
The fan's spinning speed is by default controlled by the MBO (CPU Smart FAN Control = Enabled) - as the CPU gets hotter the fan's spinning speed will be increased until it reaches it's maximal spinning rate.

i dont know if i have the latest bios version, but i didnt update the bios since i bought the pc 4 years ago(or before i dont know when i bought this)
and i just changed the boot orders(i mean the first one is optical drives, and the second one is HDD)
EDIT:
i just checked the bios, its date is 08/31/2006
i just found out its the latest bios version for my motherboard!
what can i do now?Last edited by nojoum; 05-09-2011 at 04:21 PM.

Well, since you guys are talking about temperatures... thought I would ask as well.
Is this way too much for a laptop? On a cooler...

You could try:
- reset the BIOS to "Default Settings"
- re-flash You MBO BIOS with the latest version what will ensure that the BIOS data is not damaged for whatever reason
Both actions will purge any custom tweaks You made in Your MBO BIOS.
If You are unfamiliar to BIOS/Firmware updates , leave it to someone skilled rather than rendering Your equipment inoperable!
Any hints and suggestions are given assuming that You know what You are doing!
Another possibility regarding Boot-freezing:
The contacts of Your memory modules might have oxidated , sounds stupid but in rare occasions certain boot issues can get resolved by simply "switching places" of the memory module(s).
Keep in mind that Your PC has to be disconnected from the mains power source (pull the plug!).
Attention: don't force insert the memory module(s) false way around into the DIMM slots!

Are those temps with the PC being under load or idle?
In my second post back You can see the temps of my portable PC running idle.
It is just a CoreDuo that I have , but I don't think that its successor a Core2Duo like Yours should be so much warmer!
You can always use the "Windows Task Manager" to check if the CPU is being drained by some application running in the background.
... like in my case , I believe a thorough system scan is in order

I'm really worrying about the RAM usage actually. It seems that it shoots up for no apparent reason.
Here's the task manager and temperature reading side by side. I have 4GB of RAM and I can't tell how this can actually reach 90% of RAM usage!

Anyway, I've just restarted Firefox... it can chew up to 700mb RAM at times.Last edited by Vivian; 05-09-2011 at 06:25 PM.

I believe that You are running Win7 on Your laptop - that is already 1/3rd of Your 4GB RAM wasted.
I personally completely dislike Win7 because it literally eats up insane amounts of RAM just to start up and "look nice"!
I guess that add-ons , skins , themes etc. might increase Win7's RAM hunger even more.
I am using Firefox too , and Yes it can easily fill 200MB of RAM , but 700MB?
On the other hand , You also like to use lots of add-ons for Firefox if I am correct - that could cause additional demands for RAM as well.
Wow , I can't get over those 80°C of Your laptop's CPU...
EDIT:
Vivian , after searching for info regarding Core2Duo T6500 temperatures I guess I can put Your mind at ease.
There are reports in circulation that it is quite common for the T6500 CPU to reach 80°C!
It is supposed to be harmless as long as SpeedStep doesn't kick in or Your PC shuts down on itself.
If SpeedStep kicks in , the CPU is running too hot and clocks itself DOWN to ~ half it's rated speed - obviously one will notice an extreme loss of performance!
I wouldn't have thought that Intel would release laptop CPU's running that hot - disappointing!Last edited by Wilhelm; 06-09-2011 at 02:19 PM. Reason: research...

I think I had SpeedStep kicked in and blue screens a few times before, but I didn't have a cooler at that time. Well, I guess it's alright for now then... no random restarts or processor related slowdown so far.
That cooler of mine comes really handy now.
