Which Antivirus (PC) do you think is the best?

Need a bit of help..
Right we own a laptop + pc..
The laptop got a virus like 3months ago which was my own fault i didnt have any software installed so just reformated and that was that lost everything.

Anyway after that i realised there was norton 2007 pre installed and i have it for 3months.. ive got like 8days left. its to slow loading etc.

Ive just installed avast + have it on our pc and is fine..

How do i uninstall norton?
i tryed and it kind of just crashed saying initializing..its stayed like that for over an hour.
ive downloaded the removal tool but dont wanna do something i know nothing about.

Simple advice - Only uninstall anti virus programs via Add Or Remove Programs. I tried deleting it manually, that computer is now in a dump

That was my worry doing something manually that i know nothing about and end up ......
ill just keep trying if nothing happens ill do a back up and reformat cause norton is really that bad
