Instead of posting a new topic I am posting in here regarding the phone tools. Karl you seem to be up on the workings on this program maybe you have seen this. I actually purchased the disc (before I found this site) and installed it. I had no problem on my desktop running xp. However, I can't get the melody studio to work with my laptop running vista basic. I get a message that states "missing or inappropriate codec". It won't let me crop the file or transfer to phone. However I can use file transfer feature to transfer an entire song to the phone (which is really painful and space consuming)I can also download tones from this site, but I can't shorten them at all. I emailed motorola and they told me to go to wmpplugins.com to get the codecs. That didn't work, so I emailed them back to inform them of this. I got another email giving me the name of a codec to download and an explanation that it wasn't their fault if it didn't work I should contact Microsoft. So to sum up this novel I have written, any work around for this codec message?

I would like to say that after dealing with motorola till i was blue in the face (getting sent to microsoft and back to motorola got old) I finally got phone tools to work. The problem (and motorola will not acknowledge this) was the OS. I took three different computers. A desktop running xp and the bare minimums, a lap top running xp with a bit faster processor, and a second laptop running vista home. I had NO problems on the two xp machines (other than a laggy experience on the desktop if another app happened to be open) The vista machine however still would not let me crop files or transfer to the phone unless I used file transfer. Which file transfer is ok for pictures and stuff like that but the whole point of phone tools is to MAKE your own ringtones.

I have the Motorola Disk an d downloaded the software (although I am having a hard time getting it to run). I have a K1 and I can use my original Motorola disk to create the ringtones and transfer them to the phone but it will not let me apply them as ringtones. They show up on the phone and I can listen to them but there is no link in the options menu to apply them as tones. I tried transfering them directly to my ringtones folder but it doesnt seem to show up properly on the menu (Faded almost as if it is blocked) and the phone seems to plant them directly in (Audio)...I dunno if any of this makes sense to anyone but any help would be greatly appreciated...I never had this issue with my Razr v3:blink:

Thanks Karl
Thanks you helped avoided yet another charge for services from sprint and/or motorola..
Any Idea how to pictures that were saved from the Camera to the phone? (not the external memory) but to the phone memory.
Thanks

I've never had a problrm transfering any file to my SLVR L7c.
I have a 2 GB micro SD card installed and it holds ALOT of files :) I had to purchase a memory card reader w/ the driver software so I could format the SD card to accept MP3s....now I no longer need to use the card reader.
I just download the files directly to the SD card in my phone thru my laptop - the OS is Microsoft Windows - Vista Basic Home Edition. I won't bother w/Moto Tools. You could also try using the ringtone maker here on mobiles 24. Hope that helps.
