[FAQ] How to use MP3 songs as Ringtones on LG VX9800 (Verizon Wireless)

Requirements

• USB Data Cable (eBay)
• BitPim (Freeware)

Follow the instructions below:

1. Connect your phone using your USB Data Cable
2. Open BitPim, Select Data > Get Phone Data
3. Select the Ringtone checkbox and press OK.

4. A list of ringtones you currently have on your phone will now show in the Ringers window. (They may take a while to load but if they don't, reload them again)
5. To add a ringtone, right-click Ringers under the Media sub-menu and select Add
6. Select an audio file you want to use, adjust the Bitrate and Sample Rate to your preference and click Convert
7. When the file has converted, click OK and the file should now show in the Ringers window.
8. To transfer the file to your phone, select Data > Send Phone Data. (This may take a while depending on the quality and length of the audio file)
9. Once the file has transferred, disconnect your phone and you should now be able to set the file as a ringtone.:D

How do you do this for the voyager (verizon phone). I used my internet on the phone an download a ringtone, but now i can;t find the song i downloaded. Am i missing something to make it show up on my phone as a ringtone.

An exception keeps stopping me from getting data from my phone (LG enV2)????

I am still experiensing problems with trying to get the correct song that I selected to download. It says that the file does not have the correct extension. I am stuck on step 2.

I used to be able to connect to the enV2 using the bluetooth connection and BitPIM but after upgrading the phone firmware at Verion it stop working. It kinda talks to it but BITPIM does not upload or download anything.

One way to go around it is that the new firmware (which was upgraded for free for me). Is to download songs to the sound directory on the phone's usb card and then send send it to yourself via text message the it allows to save it as a ringtone. This is only free if you have unlimited text messaging otherwise you for now I do not know of any free solution.

I have the same issue with out using the USB cables. I find a ring tone that I want and when It's done downloading,it states thats its an unsupported file type. What gives? Any Help. Just a reminder I have the Verizon LG enV2

I have LG 380...and I have LG 380 Microsd.. Just wondering fi there is way to download ringtones using micro SD ....

I do it a diff way and it works perfect for me... save a ringtone to your MicroSD card under the "Sounds" File, then send it to yourself in a msg. Once you receive the msg, go to Options/Save As Ringtone. I usually cut a 30 second clip from a song using Sony Soundforge (any audio editor will do) and save it as a 128kb/s MP3 (I add fade to the end and reduce the bass so it won't distort). Hope this helps :)

I tried loading a non-copy protected WMA file to the card and no dice - darn thing just says "no songs found". I'll try surfing around and see what I can come up with. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated...thanks!
