Yep, the rank and stars have got to do with reward points. You get your 1st star when you reach 50 Rp. Then its 100 uploads per star till you reach 300 RP, then it's 200RP per star till 1000RP. After that, it's 500 RP per star till 2000 RP I think then, it's 1000 RP per star. :)
