He does deserve it.
Just really sad about Alonso :(
Alonso wins DHL Fastest Lap Trophy
The 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship was decided at the very last Grand Prix of the season on Sunday after a dominant drive from Sebastian Vettel, now the sports youngest-ever champion. The winner of the DHL Fastest Lap Award, however, is Fernando Alonso, who recorded five fastest laps during the season. Lewis Hamilton matched that figure, but Alonso holds the highest number of second-fastest laps.
Since 2007, the Formula 1™ Official Logistics Partner DHL has been the official presenter of the Fastest Lap Award, defining a new standard of speed. Ken Allen, Chief Executive Officer DHL Express, who handed over the award to Alonso said: “The fastest lap in a race is always a challenge. This is the result of speed, precision and teamwork. Winning the DHL Fastest Lap Trophy adds continuity and reliability to this. All these attributes found the basis for DHL’s express business as well.”
Former German F1 driver and RLT TV expert Christian Danner congratulated Alonso: “Fernando has driven an incredibly fast season in the Ferrari, which in most races wasn’t the fastest car. He has shown that, all things considered, he is a very strong and most complete driver in the field.”
Alonso succeeds Vettel, winner of the 2009 DHL Fastest Lap Trophy, and Kimi Raikkonen, who secured the trophy during its first two years. In 2007, the Finnish driver defeated his Ferrari team mate Felipe Massa with six fastest laps after a neck-and-neck race that was as exciting as this season’s. In 2008, Raikkonen sailed through with 10 fastest laps. Last year, Vettel secured his triumph at the very last second, making his penultimate lap the fastest of the championship finale at Abu Dhabi and catching up with Red Bull team mate Mark Webber on the home stretch.

Mika Hakkinen has taken a swipe at former rival Michael Schumacher, saying that he is now a "tragic ex-hero" and that he should retire immediately.
Hakkinen enjoyed several memorable title clashes with arch-rival Schumacher, notably in 1998 and 2000. But after a disastrous return to Formula one that saw young team-mate Nico Rosberg accrue nearly twice as many points, Hakkinen says it is time for the German to call it a day.
"Michael is for me now a tragic ex-hero," Hakkinen told Munich newspaper TZ. "I ask myself why on earth he got back into the cockpit. There is the most successful man in motor sport driving down in the pack and making a ridiculous mistake in Abu Dhabi that almost cost him his life."
Schumacher's already disappointing season could have ended in far worse circumstances after a spin on the opening lap saw Tonio Liuzzi's Force India launch into his Mercedes, the nosecone and front wing narrowly missing his head.
"What a tragedy this would have been for the Germans - and on the day of Vettel's triumph. What has the man who has won more than anyone else still to prove? In my view, he is dismantling his own legacy bit by bit. And I see it making no difference whether it is for technical reasons or because he can no longer keep up with the boys."
Like Schumacher, Hakkinen himself contemplated a return for Formula One after his retirement before eventually taking a drive in DTM. But he warned that today's young guns are no respecters of reputation.
"After three years I returned to the cockpit myself -- for Mercedes in the DTM. And I also had to recognise that even as a Formula One world champion, there are no gifts for the older ones.
"I won only three times more. You can neither stop the wheel of time, nor turn it back. Personally, we were never close friends because he always came across, to me anyway, a little bit too arrogant."
That's cool Paul.

Fernando Alonso’s role in Ferrari strategy revealed in pit messages
The discussions on the Ferrari pit wall that led to crucial decision that cost Fernando Alonso
the world championship have been revealed.
The exchange of messages between Alonso and his race engineer Andrea Stella, which was not broadcast during the race, shows the team’s preoccupation with Alonso’s position compared to Webber.
It also shows how Alonso urged the team to use Felipe Massa to hold Webber up.
The radio transcript, published by Corriere della Sera, shows how Ferrari made the mistake of reacting to Webber’s pit stop instead of keeping Alonso out.
Lap 9
Alonso is 1.7 seconds behind Jenson Button and 1.4s ahead of Webber, who is 0.8s ahead of Massa.
Andrea Stella: “You gained three tenths on Webber. Felipe is closing in too.”
Lap 12
Webber pits.
AS: “Webber has stopped and Vettel is also losing ground on Hamilton.”
Fernando Alonso: “If you see that Felipe can overtake him in a lap call him in.”
AS: “We are thinking about it, concentrate on Button.”
Lap 14
Massa pits.
FA: “How did it work with Felipe?”
AS: “He came out behind Webber”
Lap 15
Ferrari tell Alonso to pit on lap 16.
AS: “OK, come in [to the pits] now.”
FA: “OK”
AS: “You will come out close to Webber. You are in front”.
Lap 17
Alonso is 1.1s ahead of Webber and 1.5s behind Vitaly Petrov.
FA: “What’s the situation?”
AS: “We have to overtake the Renault in front, he won’t stop any more. After that it’s Rosberg.”
Lap 22
Alonso is 0.5s behind Petrov. None of the cars that were in front of him before he pitted have come in yet.
AS: “I know you are giving everything but it’s critical to overtake Petrov.”
Delete please.
It's depressing and I take my rep back

4 Cylinder turbo? Come on. That would be the same as putting a turbo on my Tazz
Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo has admitted he is looking for allies in his aversion to Formula One's new engine formula for 2013.
When the four-cylinder turbo regulations were announced recently, di Montezemolo said the team was "not happy" but "will not stand in the way".
But di Montezemolo told Auto Motor und Sport of his aversion to the changes. "Four cylinders is not formula one. We will not be building any for our street cars [and] for the top class of racing it sounds a bit pathetic.
"Why couldn't we have a V6 turbo? We should not confuse affordable with cheap."
He admitted that he will look for like-minded opponents to the new formula. "If there is the slightest possibility to delay the four cylinder [introduction], I will look for it. We see a chance. We need unity."
One possible ally might be rival F1 engine maker Mercedes. "It would have been better to extend the V8 era," agreed Norbert Haug, with the German engine marque currently leading the field with F1's current engines. "That [V8] is a low-cost engine."
However, Auto Motor und Sport said Cosworth's Mark Gallagher believes only €30 million would be needed to design an engine according to the new 2013 formula.

Pedro de la Rosa is confident Pirelli's new 2011 tyres will make racing more interesting and has predicted two or three pit stops per race.
Last year the Bridgestone tyres were particularly hardwearing, meaning most drivers at most circuits made just one pit stop. At races where tyre degradation was higher, the action was often more interesting as drivers had to balance pace against tyre wear.
From an early stage in the development of the 2011 tyres, Pirelli hinted that it would factor in more degradation in order to make racing more exciting. Several teams reported a severe drop off in rear tyre grip at the Abu Dhabi test at the end of the season and since then Pirelli has continued to refine the characteristics of the tyre.
De la Rosa, who has been the Italian firm's main tester since he lost his drive at Sauber last year, reckons the tyres are now capable of producing better racing than in previous years.
"The races will be more interesting, because they have designed a tyre for the show - especially the super soft which is very fast but also has a very big degradation," he told Barcelona radio Rac1.
He added that he thinks the outcomes of the races will be "more open" with each driver making "2 or 3 stops per grand prix".
But he played down speculation that the new tyres, combined with adjustable rear wings and the return of KERS, will mean that qualifying is far less important than before.
"Qualifying will always be 70% of the outcome of the race," said de la Rosa. "Of course, it is true that the difference between the first and the second choice of compounds is very large. So those who start further back than eleventh will have a chance to fight for points because the harder tyre will last much longer than the soft. But that's only speculation."
De la Rosa has just completed a two-night test in Abu Dhabi, working on Pirelli's wet tyres. But with Pirelli's solo testing reaching a respite (the teams will start testing again on February 1), he said he was back in the market for an F1 drive.
"The truth is I don't know what will happen next," he said. "In January the contract with Pirelli ends and my priority is to find a seat in Formula One."
He agreed that the current situation for aspiring F1 racers is "very difficult".
"If I don't race I would be happy to continue in F1 as a reserve driver," announced de la Rosa.
He spent several years as McLaren's main test driver, but insists he is currently "not close to any teams, even McLaren."
Ferrari has launched its 2011 car, the F150, at its base in Maranello, Italy.
It is the first new car to be launched this year and, weather permitting, will be in action this afternoon on the team's private Fiorano test track for promotional filming. The car carries the hopes of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, who finished second and sixth in the drivers' title last year.
Although the car looks similar to the 2010 model, with a slightly wider mid-section to accommodate its KERS unit, technical director Aldo Costa said the ban on double diffusers has required a completely new approach.
"Due to the new rules the car should be a proper cut compared to the previous one, with new concepts and lines of development," he said. "As far as the looks are concerned the rules keep them quite unaltered. The cars look like the ones from last year, but from a technical point of view they will be really different."
When asked what the biggest challenge had been in the F150's development, he said: "Starting from scratch with the car's rear, because the double diffuser and the F-duct are gone and there have been some clarifications regarding the car's underbody: these were the main challenges and why we had to start from scratch rethinking the whole project."
He said the upper-body aerodynamics would be completely reworked over the course of testing, meaning the car will be quite different for the first race in Bahrain on March 13.
"The car's evolution has been planned with two big stages: one during the winter tests, where we will mainly develop the area of the mechanics, which means that the car's structure, the chassis, the gearbox and the suspension will remain the same for the first couple of races," he said. "The aerodynamics is simplified and temporary for the first tests, waiting for the real aerodynamic development for the first race."
Full interview with Stefano Domenicali
Team principal Stefano Domenicali said Ferrari's objective this year was clear.
"Our goal is to win the championships, we know that it's not easy but that is what we are trying to achieve," he said. "I think that there are many very, very good teams, so I would not underestimate any of them. I think Red Bull and I think McLaren, but there are many other good teams that will emerge during the year. On the drivers' side, there are all the world champion drivers and the new talents that are coming up, so it will be a tough season, we know that."
