Java on T359 Smiley

There are several sites (This one included) that list java apps and games for the Samsung Smiley t359. I've tried downloading some of these and I've copied them to the micro SD card in the phone, but when I try to run the .jar or .jad files, I just get some sort of unsupported file type message. There is some conflicting information on whether the smiley will run java apps, and my feeling is that it won't but then there are so many sites like this one that post apps for it. So does someone have the definative answer... Can the Smiley run java apps, and if so, HOW????
